The Río Solís IV completes its first offload and prepares for the 2025 fishing season.

Last Tuesday, December 17th, the Río Solís IV, the newest addition to our fleet, completed its first offload at the Port of Montevideo. This operation marked an important milestone for the Pesquerías Belnova team, as it provided the perfect opportunity for the crew to familiarize themselves with the features of this modern freezer trawler, recently renovated with a $15 million investment.

Although the initial catch was modest due to the season, this operational exercise achieved its primary goal: testing the vessel’s performance and optimizing team coordination on board, as highlighted by our General Manager, Albano González.

Ready for the 2025 fishing season

With Montevideo as its home port, the Río Solís IV is designed to operate in national waters, the Exclusive Economic Zone, the Argentina-Uruguay Joint Fishing Zone, and during the fishing season, extend its activity to international waters beyond the 200-mile limit. In January 2025, the vessel is scheduled to set sail for these areas, coinciding with the start of the fishing season for key species such as Patagonian squid and jumbo flying squid, two of the most abundant resources during that period.

Our goal for the Río Solís IV is to achieve an annual production of 7,000 to 8,000 tons, processing up to 120 tons of fish per day on the high seas. These figures not only strengthen our operational capacity but also ensure the sustainability of our operations, always adhering to local and international fishing regulations.

A vessel designed for excellence

The Río Solís IV, measuring 60 meters in length, 13 meters in beam, and with a draft of 7 meters, replaces the historic Río Solís III, which had been in operation since 1969. This modern vessel features advanced technology to optimize catches and ensure the well-being of the 54 crew members on board. Additionally, its ability to operate in deep-sea waters enables Pesquerías Belnova to diversify its offerings and access migratory species and high-value commercial resources such as Argentine hake, jumbo flying squid, and squid.

Commitment to sustainable development

As it prepares for its next campaign in January 2025, the Río Solís IV, along with its fleet companion, the Río Solís II, remains in port, ready to set sail for the most productive areas of the Atlantic. This effort not only reaffirms our commitment to modernization and operational efficiency but also to sustainability and local economic development by generating jobs and contributing to the strengthening of Uruguay’s fishing industry.

At Pesquerías Belnova, we continue to prioritize innovation, respect for the marine environment, and excellence at every stage of our operations. The upcoming fishing season will be another opportunity to showcase the potential of our fleet and reaffirm our position as leaders in the fishing industry.
